About Us

Our Story

For teachers in public schools, there is immense pressure to stretch every dollar as far as possible. Despite the scarce resources, teachers are expected to keep a classroom fully stocked with up-to-date tools and materials. While there are some free science tools like PHeT’s online simulations and Physics Tracker that are amazing, many more tools are expensive, hard-to-use, and easy-to-break.

Open Source Science was created with the goal of creating a bank of resources and tools that can be used by any science teacher and easily adapted to their local needs. They are designed to be free or low-cost, easy-to-use, durable, and fun.

Low Cost

Whenever possible, we source our supplies at dollar stores and other low-cost retailers.

Easy to Use

We test our designs with high school children of all ability levels to minimize usability problems.

Durable

Our products are designed to keep working after being used, mis-used, and abused by students, so that your teaching dollar goes farther.
